Forget social enterprise as simply a business; (TLDR) it is a tool to enact policy change.
Social enterprise has been popularly seen as a form of business. While this is not wrong, it is a very narrow view of what it really is. Social enterprise is not just a business, it is a tool to enact policy change by working outside, inside and with the government. In this way, it can unleash more social impact and change the world for the better.
Our paper, with data collected for nearly a decade on nine policy changing social enterprises in the Global Soutn recently won an award – The Jenei Award 2025 – awarded at the recent IRSPM 2026 conference in Perth, Australia. It was published in Public Management Review Published
